The Galloway School Reviews

Galloway can be a comfortable, secure environment for a child. On the other hand, too often students are not challenged to reach their potential. It is adequate academically in most respects, but not stellar in many. There has been too much inertia in recent years, without innovation, and some faculty never change what or how they teach. The school's small size, without additional resources, limits class offerings and opportunities. It's definitely a mixed bag.

Galloway has an interesting and often worthwhile educational philosophy, but it is inconsistently implemented and often not done well. It needs some 'tweaking' for the 21st century as well. Resources are lacking in some important areas. Faculty is inconsistent, with some very dedicated teachers and others who lack motivation and innovation. My child left Galloway during middle school for public school, and lags her public school counterparts in several academic areas. Discipline is also inconsistently applied. The early years are the best part of the school.

My family's experience at Galloway has been inconsistent at best. The Early Learning program is probably the strongest at the school. There is a lack of consistency and coordination in the curriculum at middle and high school levels and my daughter's experience in the classroom ranged from excellent to mediocre. Extracurricular opportunities are fairly limited compared to other public and private schools, especially in the upper grades. Students who need and want extra challenge and academic acceleration may not find it here, because of the school's philosophy of not grouping or tracking students based on academic performance. The school has some specific strengths in some areas, but overall the middle and high school programs (academic and extracurricular) are not as strong as they could or should be.

As a mother of an EL student, I cannot say enough about The Galloway School. The program is creative and makes learning fun. My child was reading before even entering kindergadent and I am amazed by the variety of things he learned: from academic basics to having in depth knowledge about animals, our world etc. My sense is that although their EL program is excellent, there is not enough consistency year to year. However, that aside, the teachers are experienced, kind and inspiring. My child never wants to miss school and has learned more than I expected of him at this point--what else can you ask for? Top notch.

I have never expericned Upper Learning or Early Learning at Galloway, but let me tell you as a student, the Middle Learning program is terrible and dissapointing. ML is a time in lots of adolecents lives when bullying occurs and you run into a lot of issues with friends, etc. Galloway does not help those problems at all. The ML program, teachers, and administrators make everything worse. The amount of bullying that occurs in ML at Galloway is astonishing. And whats even more astonishing is how naive and unsupportive the faculty are when you need help. They avoid the problem instead of solving it.

Galloway was an AMAZING school! I recently graduated from it, and once I got to college I realized how much I benefit from going to such a small and caring school. Things like not having a cafeteria, not having cheerleaders, and not having homecoming or prom kings or queens really saved me from a lot of social stress most high schoolers go through. Teachers are always their to help students. Students are aware of what is going on in the world around them and even have fundraisers for things they are compassionate about. This year and last, students organized a concert to raise money for the Save Darfur Coalition at the Roxy theatre. Students are very down to earth and learn how to work with each other. I would HIGHLY recommend Galloway to any parent!!!!

My wife and I love this private school from interacting of students and learning to outdoor 3 day camping trip, foreign languages, computer music, debates, the staff is wonderful and we only been there 3 yrs. Galloway is at the top of graduation rates,SAT scores.

i am a student at the galloway school, and I just have to say that this school gets pretty old. i try to wonder how people like my friends could go here since they were really little. I never really felt challenged, and I want to leave so badly for highschool. the thing is, if you aren't popular, then you are an 'outcast' and nobody likes you. It gets kind of annoying, and if your on finacial aid, watching people drive to schooll in their mercedes and their porches get kind of annoying. i've gotten used to it over the years, but it really puts a damper to my day when I don't fit in... it may be a problem at all schools, but at galloway, popularity competition is the worst.

The Galloway School is an exceptional school. I recommend it to all! Come visit and see for yourself! This school is unbelievable with a great Fine Arts Center!

I attended The Westminster Schools for 10 years before attending Galloway. The enviroment is much more laid back, and the students are generally much more diversified than the other Atlanta private schools. It prepared me well for college, and I highly recommend it as an alternative to the other elitist and pretentious private schools avalible.

I am a first year teacher at The Galloway School, and I can not give it enough praise. The support from my fellow teachers has been exceptional, and the children are wonderful. The students are allowed more freedom than many other schools. For the most part, that freedom is not abused. The students are enthusiastic about learning, they tend to go above and beyond my suggested guidelines, and I look forward to going to work every morning. I don't know many people who can say that. I grew up going to Catholic school in Louisiana, so I know that the progressive nature of Galloway may veer people away because it would mean change. My suggestion- check it out for yourself. Walk the halls and you will immediatly feel the warmth and wonder of Galloway.

Completely hated it. Was not challenging at all. Much happier and prepared for college at new private school with much better sports and fine arts program.

I have sent my two sons to Galloway school. It it a 'Community of Learners'. I am very impressed by the way the school is run. My favorite thing is the Buddy program where older children have a special Buddy from the lower grades assigned to them and they do various activities throughout the year. Galloway is reassuringly small and has no plans to get bigger although it could easily accept more children every year. Sports are important but not huge, everyone gets a game, and we still make a great showing particularly in soccer. Drama and music are very strong. Parent involvement is huge, they run the school store and have two volunteers every day for the lunch program. Each child really is treated as an individual and in my 7 years as a parent I have had a good relationship with the entire faculty. If you get accepted, go.

i attend the galloway school and this is my first year there. im a sixth grader. and so far i feel like ive been there my whole life. all the students are very nice and kind. the teachers challenge you but htey will go over it without frustration, if you dont understand. it may not be the hugest school and it only has a few students but it still has a great fit. and the classes arent to crowded. you also get alot of freedom. you will learn great vcabulary and you will feel like the subjects are really easy. the teachers are great, they make sure that you understand something before they move on. starting in seventh grade you have many exploritories like drama, chrous, technology, band, string, dance, reading, math, science, and this year we might start fashion class.this school is great. We have many sports soccer, basketball, vollyeball, softball and much more we dont have football, cheerleading. YEAH GALLOWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Galloway is a truly unique, well rounded and satisfying academic environment. The school easily covers the basics such as a challenging educational curriculum with ample resources and strong teacher guidance, involvement, encouragement and enthusiasm. Galloway also challenges the students in many positive personal respects. There is an exceptional framework woven into the curriculum for students to learn critical decision making skills that allow Galloway students to be leaders in the areas of personal responsibility, time management, peer cooperation and creative problem solving. The academic environment is very active and participatory, which is ideal for students to develop and explore passionate interests with safe boundries. Another plus is the seemless unity between the lower (including the pre-school), middle and upper learning schools that creates many cross-grade positive mentoring opportunities. A wonderful academic and social environment with a student population in love with learning!
