Woodstock High School Reviews

I am going into my junior year at Woodstock, and can say that I honestly like the school. I see that certain parents have desired to pull their students out of WHS because their grades dropped from middle school, but that is just a fact that happens to every student. It shows that there is a significant jump to high school in terms of the workload and responsibility, no matter where you attend high school. Woodstock sports are really enjoyable, the after school programs are more than worthwhile, the teachers are enthusiastic to teach and involved with students outside the classroom, and the atmosphere of the school is great. Yes the halls are crowded, but the big population provides for a more diverse crowd of people. I would recommend WHS to any high school student.

I'm a senior this year and I love going to WHS. From the begining of my freshman year to now, I have had supportive teachers that truely cared wether or not I passed. Teachers that took the time to get to know me and understand how I lear[n] best. All of the faculty and staff there are always looking for ways to connect with the studenrts here. There are also many clubs that are offered and after school activities that privide a safer kind of fun for students. I believe that I'm leaving this school as a well rounded person who is ready to face college

I am finishing up my second year, and though I would hate to change schools I believe that Woodstock has serious problems. For starters, it's extremely over-crowded; the halls are terrible to get through. The teachers are also cold and don't really care for the students or their education. The school is also very unclean and the classrooms are not creative.

I am a sophomore at WHS, and absolutely love it. The school is in an affluent area, but not overwhelmingly so. The teachers and staff are very reasonable and understanding, while also giving a taste of the college future by being strict to a palatable degree. They certainly ready the students for prestigious colleges. Besides having great academic oppurtunities, WHS has an amazing fine arts department, with a grand champion band of 88, competing with more wealthy bands of 300. I am very happy to be at Woodstock, and would like others to enjoy it as well!

I have a son who is a senior this year at WHS. He loved school and was a straight 'A' student until he began WHS. I believe there is a lack of enthusiasm for teaching with most of the staff. I do not think that my son is prepared to attend college next year, despite graduating in the top 10% of his class. I do not want my other children to attend WHS, and I will be moving out of the district. I urge all parents of academically achieving students to take your students out of WHS, if you notice a difference in your student in 9th grade. I wish I would have listened to my gut, and pulled my son in 9th grade. I believe he would have had a more challenging and rewarding academic experience in high school.

My daughter is in 10th grade and doing very well. She went 8th grade to WMS and that was terrific. I feel WHS is doing a very good job as a public school. Your child can go to any school and do well if they want to. Yes once in a while there is a teacher that is different, but our overall experience at WHS is terrific. The new principal is a bit stronger in his beliefs, but he is doing a very good job. I do know my daughter loves the school and works hard to get good grades. Her teachers give her extra help if needed on their own time. Woodstock High School is an excellent public school. Woodstock Resident

Not impressed with the way violence is handled. Administrators have lost touch with reality when it comes to discipline. One of the worst schools my child has ever attended. Science teachers have a 'religious' twist to lessons, also.

My son is currently a freshman at Woodstock High School and is performing horribly. I'm considering moving him to homeschool or a private school. Unfortunately, he's a product of Woodstock Middle School where he was passed to the 9th grade even though I requested that he repeat the 8th grade due to the low C's and D's that he was bringing home. When he first started experiencing problems, I would reach out to the administrators but would receive little support. He attended the early morning tutoring sessions for math and that helped. But there is no other support available for the other classes! In addition to that, WHS and WMS both need to put their teachers through an intense diversity training session as they have no clue how to teach Hispanic and African-American children.

WOodstock High School/Teachers that I have had to deal with are the worst. The use Parent Connect which is useless. There are no tools to check on your childs progress until it is too late and the teachers would never think of calling, emailing, writing a note to let you know your child is having problems. I could only count 4 or 5 teachers in the entire school that I would ever give more money for what they do. My daughter has gone from A' and B's to failing and the teachers could care less. The fact that the county does not care, the schools and teachers are not held accountable for being a bunch of slackers. I hate that I don't have the funds to send my child to a private school, but I hope that you do. Please check out other schools before sending your child.

I was a first year graduate and currently have a brother who has attended both schools. My brother and I were both A/B students and involved in sports and other extracurricular activites. I loved my expierence; my brother felt slightly different. In academics, the school is mediocre, just as the rest of GA education. Parents please help our education system by getting involved in the process. The sports program is evolving. Softball, baseball, volleyball, and basketball go to state each year. The football program needs direction. The fine arts are strong. The principal is very strict; saftey and disipline are high priorities. The teachers are good, supportive leaders. Overall, this school has great potential. Parent involvement and support will make the school stronger.

I am currently a Junior attending WHS. This is my best year so far. The school has its defects just like any other school in the World does. The principal might be very strict, but he loosened up more this year.... We now have pep-rallys, field day (called Class Clash), Winterfest dance, and many more activities that he himself proposed. I don't know why people complain about him because he is trying his best to bring back our school to how it's supposed to be--the best in the county.Oh yeah.... He also lets us have our iPods during lunch. Overall the school is awesome and the teachers are ok too, you just have to get into their good side just like in any other school. You can not judge a school unless you've attend it. GO WOLVERINES!!! -Santiago

My children have attended the middle and now the High School. I have two seniors who hate this school. The school runs without any concern to the students needs academically or socially. Therefore, they do not enjoy attending classes and are not involved. The principal comes across as militant; the kids dislike him and he is non-responsive to the parents. The administrative staff is cold and uncaring. Both my sons have gone from straight B's to failing. I meet with teachers and try to come up with a solution, but the teachers really do not seem to care if a child is failing. I have even offered to pay for tutoring; however no interest came of it. This is perfect example of where you do not want your child to attend. This school really does not care at all about the student. Getting involved as a parent does not help.

I think Woodstock is a great school with many extracuricular activities and electives to achieve a high ranking college.

The best year at WHS in my opinion as a parent of 4 WHS attendees, was the year the school opened, 1997. I was a substitute teacher so I experienced a lot first hand. The teachers, administrative staff, and students all seemed to be on the same page. There was great school spirit and unity. Since then things have changed quite a bit. The school seems to be run without any regard to the students needs academically or socially. Therefore, they do not enjoy attending classes and have nothing to look forward to. The principal comes across as militant in policy yet seems to ignore serious issues such as keeping the school drug free. The administrative staff is cold and uncaring with the exception of the attendance office. My son has gone from straight A's to failing. I receive no word from the staff until it's too late.

I am a Sophmore at Woodstock High School. Overall I believe it is a ok school and heading in the right direction. Woodstock High is by far the best high school in Cherokee County, we have the best test scores. Some teachers are better than others. My freshman year I had very good teachers, this year is just so-so. Also many people do not approve of the new principal Mr. Newhall. He is very strict. We can no longer have Pep-rallies, watch movies, field day, or watch any kind of play or talent show during school time. These are only a few things that he has done. He has done good for the school, I feel very safe at my school. Woodstock also has an excellent Choral Program, one of the best in the state!

My daughter has went thru the Middle School and is now in her freshman year. She is on the honor roll and Soccer team and is very happy at this school. After reading some of the feedback I can see why one Parent didn't even know if there is a PTA. Get involved they are your Children.

I have removed two of my children from this school system's middle and high schools. In general, this system is representative of our failing public schools. Until the leadership of this system is replaced, students and parents will continue to suffer from a poor educational experience.

I am a third year student at Woodstock High School. I agree that the school is way to overcrowded, and most of the stundents don't really care to learn at all. Most of the teachers do not teach to their full potential, and those who do are scarse. I do not believe that I am anywhere near prepaired to enter college because my years at this school have not made me to believe I am. The new principal, Newhaul I believe, is too concerned with making the students behave and stick to all the rules, as well as most of the teachers. In 4 out of my 6 classes, the teachers DON'T teach, they may give notes, but mostly it is wooksheets and homework, then tests. I would not consider going to this school if you have the choice. Turn away while you can.

I have one child attending Woodstock High and one who graduated 2 yrs ago. My honor roll son is now failed 2 classes, no one is concerned. Test are given, however teaching is obsolete. My child that graduated still does not have her diploma.

I will be graduating this year with honors (it's no accomplishment at this school, believe me) from WHS after four years, and overall, I think the school is a massive waste of time. Very few teachers are interested in teaching and an even smaller minority of students actually care about learning. The school has an environment of apathy that surpasses anything I've ever seen before in an academic situation. Woodstock places no value whatsoever on academic quality or academic achievement, and the principal's primary concern is attendance. If your student is a high academic achiever, he/she will be severely disappointed with the quality of academics at the school. The AP Departments are relatively solid (with a few exceptions, of course), but only a small number of AP courses are offered. I guarantee you that students won't feel prepared for college after graduating from this school. They will feel coddled.

I have had 1 daughter in there that is now in the H.S. and currently have another daughter in this school. I agree and feel very strongly that it is definetly over crowded and something needs to be done, but I do not think it affects the attention or the learning from the teachers to the students at all. I would also like to add how the office is friendly and helpful and makes my time alot easier when I go in there.

More efforts should be directed toward education. I am still waiting for a response to issue 2 1/2 years later. My child has since graduated. The school administrators lack skills to relate to parents. Teachers should teach instead of policing hats, pant/skirt length, etc. I still don't know if WHS had/has a PTA.

My son attended WHS for 2/3 of his freshman year. The school is over crowded and the kids do not get the education or the attention they need as a result. Soem of the teachers are exceptional, but unfortunately they are the minority at this school. My son is currently at a private school.

My two sons have both graduated from WHS, both with honors. They both were involved with the band, and feel that they received the quality education to prepare them for collge and adulthood. Yes the high school is overcrowed, but the teachers and administration I feel do the best job to their ability. Remember we as parents shape our children into the people they will become. Instead of blaming others, teach them to overcome the obstacles that face our school system. The resources are at the school and the staff are always willing to lend a hand in whatever your questions might be.

I have one grautate from this and one in attendance. I haven't been impressed with this school. The impression under the previous female peincipal was that discipline, not education, was the priority. I believe in discipline but fairness does not factor into this principal's way of thinking. I understand she has left so perhaps things will improve.
